Frequently Asked Questions

When will the application be available?
All of our applications are made available on or around December 1. Click the link to access the Applications.

Can I apply if I know I'm getting another scholarship?
Yes. As long as you have not already accepted a fully funded four-year scholarship and you meet our eligibility criteria, you can apply.

Can I defer my scholarship?
Yes. You may defer your scholarship for up to one year by sending us a request for deferral after you receive your award letter.

Can I be awarded a scholarship more than once?
No. Our scholarships are one-time awards and are not renewable.

Who reads my application?
Your application is read by our Scholarship Coordinator and our panel of five judges. Before the judges read your application, the Scholarship Coordinator checks your application for completeness and redacts all identifying information.

Who are the judges?
Our panel of judges is made up of five people. We strive to have one educator, one active duty service member, one retired service member, one military enlisted spouse, and one military officer spouse.

How do you determine who gets a scholarship?
Our judges read and score each application based on a rubric. The rubric categories align with parts of your application: transcript, extracurricular activities, volunteer activities, leadership positions, honors and/or awards, essay, and recommendation letters. For each application, the Scholarship Committee combines the five scores from the judges and averages them to get a percentage of the possible awarded points. On average, we are able to award scholarships to applicants who earn a score of 80% or higher.

How much money will I receive?
On average, our scholarships range from $500 to $3,000. The money we have available for scholarships varies from year to year due to our funding sources.

How will I receive my scholarship money?
Our Fund will send a check directly to your institution of higher learning towards the end of July. You can use your scholarship money for tuition, room and board, and/or books and supplies.
